“Our story began with our grandfather, Shri Mookkiah Chettiar, whose dedicated hands transformed threads into masterpieces of traditional handloom art.”
Built on an unyielding passion for authentic craftsmanship, our foundation was cemented in history on January 31, 1965. On that momentous day, Shri Mookkiah Chettiar was awarded First Prize by the Government at the esteemed Q-175 Regional Handloom Exhibition covering the rich weaving belts of Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, and Kanniyakumari.
The honor was presented by Ms. Rajam, wife of Shri Shesan, the then District Collector of Madurai, establishing a gold standard of quality that defines us to this day.

Continuing the legacy
The region of Karaikudi and Chettinad has been renowned for its handloom weaving tradition since the early 20th century. Private handloom weaving enterprises initially flourished in this belt, and the subsequent establishment of cooperative societies further strengthened and expanded the local weaving industry.
Chettinad’s traditional Kandangi Sarees have earned a unique global identity through their earthy natural tones, distinctive three-color borders, and timeless woven patterns. Across generations, this rich tradition continues to thrive through the dedicated artistry and skill of local weavers.
